{"id":128269,"date":"2026-09-30T05:57:42","date_gmt":"2026-09-30T05:57:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/alj.com\/?post_type=news&#038;p=128269"},"modified":"2026-09-30T05:57:42","modified_gmt":"2026-09-30T05:57:42","slug":"frv-australia-commissions-terang-its-first-large-scale-battery-energy-storage-project-in-australia","status":"publish","type":"news","link":"https:\/\/alj.com\/en\/news\/frv-australia-commissions-terang-its-first-large-scale-battery-energy-storage-project-in-australia\/","title":{"rendered":"FRV Australia commissions Terang, its first large-scale battery energy storage project in Australia"},"content":{"rendered":"<ul>\n<li>Terang is FRV\u2019s first utility-scale Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) project delivered in Australia.<\/li>\n<li>Located in Terang, the project has a capacity of 100 MW \/ 200 MWh, helping to strengthen the stability and resilience of the electricity grid.<\/li>\n<li>The project received AUD 7 million in funding for the installation of new grid-forming inverters through the second round of the Victorian Government\u2019s Energy Innovation Fund (EIF).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/frv.com\/en\/\">Fotowatio Renewable Ventures (FRV) Australia,<\/a> a leading developer of sustainable energy solutions, and part of <a href=\"https:\/\/alj.com\/en\/energy-and-environmental-services\/energy-overview\/\">Jameel Energy<\/a> and the Canadian infrastructure fund <a href=\"http:\/\/www.omersinfrastructure.com\/\">OMERS<\/a> Infrastructure, has announced the successful commissioning of Terang, its first utility-scale Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) project in Australia.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Jameel Energy&#039;s FRV announce commissioning of Terang BESS (EN VO\/Subs)\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/UH9F8-4xah0?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Located in Terang, in the state of Victoria, the project has a capacity of 100 MW \/ 200 MWh, helping to strengthen the stability and resilience of the electricity grid.<\/p>\n<p>The commissioning of Terang marks a crucial milestone for FRV Australia, as it becomes the company\u2019s first standalone battery energy storage project, increasing its portfolio of operational assets in Australia to nine and adding dispatchable energy capacity to FRV Australia&#8217;s predominantly solar generation portfolio.<\/p>\n<p>The project was further bolstered by an AUD 7 million grant awarded through the second round of the Victorian Government\u2019s Energy Innovation Fund (EIF), supporting the deployment of new grid-forming inverter technology. This initiative forms part of the Victorian Government\u2019s efforts to achieve its target of 65% renewable energy generation by 2030.<\/p>\n<p>Canadian Solar served as EPC contractor for the project, with TEC-C delivering the balance-of-plant works.\u00a0 The facility incorporates 48 SolBank 3.0 e battery containers, manufactured by e-Storage, and 38 SMA inverters.\u00a0 The project supported approximately 40 full-time-equivalent roles during the construction and generated business and procurement opportunities for local companies and suppliers.<\/p>\n<p>As part of their commitment to the communities in which they operate, FRV Australia supported several social initiatives throughout the development of the project, including sponsorship programmes for the Australian Indigenous Education Foundation (AIEF) and the Terang Mortlake Netball Club.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cThe commissioning of Terang marks a defining moment for FRV Australia.\u00a0 The project demonstrates our ability to develop and operate utility-scale dispatchable energy infrastructure that supports Australia\u2019s energy transition.\u00a0 It provides critical firming capacity during peak hours while helping to strengthen grid reliability.\u00a0 We are proud to contribute to Victoria\u2019s energy future through a solution that combines sustainability, innovation and benefits for local communities.\u201d said Michael Steiner, CEO of FRV Australia.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Terang forms part of FRV Australia&#8217;s expanding battery energy storage portfolio in Victoria.\u00a0 The company is developing the 250 MW \/ 500 MWh Gnarwarre Battery Energy Storage System, currently under construction and targeted for completion by the end of 2027.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, FRV Australia also has a pipeline of stand-alone BESS and solar-BESS hybrid projects under development in New South Wales, Victoria and Queensland.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"featured_media":128270,"template":"","tags":[],"newscategory":[149],"acf":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v21.5 - https:\/\/yoast.com\/wordpress\/plugins\/seo\/ -->\n<title>FRV Australia commissions Terang BESS project | Abdul Latif Jameel\u00ae<\/title>\n<meta name=\"description\" content=\"FRV Australia has announced the successful commissioning of Terang, its first utility-scale Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) project in Australia;
