development of wind power in Japan significant<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Abdul Latif Jameel General Trading Japan, a progressive developer of clean energy, launched its two first \u2018micro\u2019 wind turbines at Cape Erimo \u2013 Japan\u2019s \u201cWind Town\u201d \u2013 in south-east Hokkaido, the country\u2019s northernmost major island. \u00a0This is the first in a series of pilot <a href=\"https:\/\/www.alj.com\/en\/energy-and-environmental-services\/wind-power-solutions\/\">wind energy<\/a> projects, planned across Japan, working in partnership Abdul Latif Jameel Energy.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Abdul Latif Jameel catches the breeze in Japan\u2019s \u2018Wind Town\u2019 to power clean energy (EN, 16:9)\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/rizn9AAfJyI?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>With a capacity of 20 KW each, these new installations will bring the total micro-turbines to be delivered through this project to 20: 6 units in Hokkaido, 12 in Aomori and 2 in Akita. \u00a0Their combined power will generate a total of 400 KW into the national grid: enough to supply energy to around 400 typical homes and saving around 1,000 tons of CO<sub>2<\/sub> annually through 20 year agreements with regional power companies <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hepco.co.jp\/english\/index.html\">Hokkaido Electric Power Company<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tohoku-epco.co.jp\/english\/index.html\">Tohoku Electric Power Co., Inc.<\/a> respectively.<\/p>\n<p>Cape Erimo was chosen for the turbines, as the wind blows at over 10 meters\/minute for more than 260 days a year making it one of the strongest wind potential areas in Japan.<\/p>\n<p>Harnessing the country\u2019s significant wind power potential across Hokkaido and Tohoku, offers a valuable natural resource, with opportunities to develop the local economy and to cultivate Japan\u2019s green energy sector.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-20149\" src=\"https:\/\/media.alj.com\/app\/uploads\/2019\/01\/All.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1286\" height=\"252\" https:\/\/media.alj.com\/app\/uploads\/2019\/01\/All-1024x201.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1286px) 100vw, 1286px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The Abdul Latif Jameel team, continue to research wind and solar potential, identifying sites, and design, construct and operate wind power solutions and are seeking to rapidly develop and scale this project partnering with <a href=\"http:\/\/frv.com\/en\/\">Fotowatio Renewable Ventures (FRV)<\/a>, Abdul Latif Jameel Energy\u2019s global renewables developer.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cIn the future, we will build 50 or more units of similar small-scale wind turbines, and from 2019 some much larger capacity units.\u00a0 This will be in partnership with Abdul Latif Jameel Energy\u2019s renewables business \u2018FRV\u2019, and contribute positively to extending the clean energy business across Japan\u201d commented <a href=\"https:\/\/www.alj.com\/en\/our-people\/shigeki-enami\/\">Shigeki Enami<\/a>, President and CEO, Abdul Latif Jameel General Trading.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The micro wind turbines project is successful as it remains sensitive to environmental and local community considerations, Mr Enami continued:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cAt each stage of the site assessment and development, we frequently consult and look to develop a close relationship with local communities.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Japan&#8217;s wind power electricity sector today generates only a small proportion of the country&#8217;s Power.\u00a0 As of 2015, Japan had a total installed capacity of 3,167 MW.<sup>\u00a0 <\/sup>Industry experts have estimated that Japan has the potential for 144 GW for onshore wind and 608 GW of offshore wind
