The collaboration between the two companies will combine Air Products\u2019 technological know-how and experience in the field of hydrogen with Saudi Aramco\u2019s industrial experience, facilities, and R&amp;D capabilities. In addition, Saudi Aramco and Air Products will establish a pilot fleet of fuel cell vehicles for which high-purity compressed hydrogen will be dispensed at the new fueling station.<\/p>\n<p>Air Products\u2019 proprietary SmartFuel\u00ae hydrogen fueling technology will be incorporated into the new station to supply the vehicles with compressed hydrogen. Data collected during this pilot phase of the project will provide valuable information for the assessment of future application of this emerging transport technology in the local environment. The hydrogen fueling station, a first in the Kingdom, is expected to be operational by April 2019.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cHydrogen fuel cells offer an effective means for the electrification of transport while maintaining easy refueling and long driving ranges,\u201d said Ahmad O. Al Khowaiter, Chief Technology Officer of Saudi Aramco. \u201cThe use of hydrogen derived from oil or gas to power fuel cell electric vehicles represents an exciting opportunity to expand the use of oil in clean transport,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are honored to work on another venture with Saudi Aramco to establish and develop a sustainable hydrocarbon-based hydrogen supply system for pilot demonstration of a fuel cell vehicle fleet in Saudi Arabia,\u201d said Dr. Samir Serhan Executive Vice President at Air Products. He added: \u201cIt further illustrates our commitment to the Kingdom\u2019s 2030 vision.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The hydrogen fueling station will be located within the grounds of Air Products\u2019 world-class Technology Center in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dtvc.com.sa\/\">Dhahran Techno Valley Science Park<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.toyota-global.com\/\">Toyota Motor Corporation<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/toyota.com.sa\">Abdul Latif Jameel Motor<\/a>s, its distributor in Saudi Arabia, will supply <a href=\"https:\/\/www.toyota-global.com\/showroom\/vehicle_gallery\/result\/mirai\/\">Toyota Mirai Fuel Cell Vehicles<\/a> for testing in this pilot project. Toyota has been investing in hydrogen for over 20 years, and in 2014 introduced the Mirai, its first mass-produced hydrogen fuel cell vehicle. The Mirai is a zero-emission vehicle which runs on compressed hydrogen gas and only emits water. The car is powered through a fuel cell which creates electricity by combining oxygen from air with hydrogen from the fuel tank. Toyota has long maintained that hydrogen fuel cell technology can offer a sustainable zero emission solution across a broad spectrum of vehicle types, and sees global sales of fuel cell electric vehicles increasing significantly after 2020.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Mr. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.alj.com\/en\/about\/our-people\/\">Raad Al Saady<\/a>, Abdul Latif Jameel Motors, commented: \u201cThis collaboration continues our long-standing participation in building Saudi Arabia\u2019s sustainable energy future through the introduction of hydrogen-powered transport vehicles in the Kingdom. Hydrogen, which is mostly produced from oil or natural gas today, is a clean and sustainable fuel that offers the driver the same 5 minute gas station fueling experience with a much higher range
