in Saudi Arabia and Kenya<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Abdul Latif Jameel Energy has stepped up its active participation in the Middle East\u2019s water sector with two deals expanding its presence in Egypt and Bahrain.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.almarwater.com\/\">Almar Water Solutions<\/a>, Abdul Latif Jameel Energy\u2019s dedicated water solutions unit, formed a joint venture with <a href=\"https:\/\/hautilities.com\/\">HA Utilities<\/a> (HAU), part of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hassanallam.com\/\">Hassan Allam Holding<\/a> (HAH), to provide sustainable water infrastructure solutions to municipal and industrial clients across Egypt.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Abdul Latif Jameel Energy\/Almar Water announce JV with Hassan Allam Utilities Egypt (EN, 16:9)\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/Lb66vxCHUzk?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Drawing on the extensive sector experience of both companies, the JV will work on developing sustainable water solutions, including water and wastewater management, and BOT<a href=\"#_ftn1\" name=\"_ftnref1\">[1]<\/a> and BOO<a href=\"#_ftn2\" name=\"_ftnref2\">[2]<\/a> projects in Egypt. \u00a0The JV also intends to take an active role as a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) investor and an Operation and Maintenance (O&amp;M) supplier, as well pursuing new greenfield projects, and exploring acquisitions of brownfield assets and O&amp;M service companies.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In a second, separate transaction, Almar acquired <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mip.ae\/\">Mubadala Infrastructure Partner\u2019s<\/a> water investment in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.muharraqstp.com\/\">Muharraq STP Company<\/a> (MSC), which has a 29-year concession to build, own and operate a 100,000 cubic meter\/day, state of the art wastewater treatment plant and sewer conveyance system in the Kingdom of Bahrain. \u00a0The conveyance system includes the first 16.5 km deep gravity sewer trunk pipeline in the GCC region and a wastewater collection network.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"ALJ Energy\/Almar Water Solutions announce aquisition of stake in MSC Bahrain (EN, 16:9)\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Speaking on the agreements, <a href=\"https:\/\/alj.com\/en\/our-people\/fady-jameel\/\">Fady Jameel<\/a>, Deputy President and Vice Chairman of Abdul Latif Jameel, said:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cThese investments follow our strategy to own and operate water assets in the region and beyond. \u00a0The Middle East and Africa faces some of the most pressing water challenges anywhere in the world as rapid development and growing populations putting pressure on already scarce water resources. \u00a0Almar\u2019s expertise in desalination and waste-water management can deliver sustainable solutions and meet this growing demand.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>These transactions mark further significant steps forward for Almar Water Solutions and Abdul Latif Jameel Energy\u2019s growth across the region, which has recently included winning contracts to develop one of the world\u2019s largest desalination projects in Al <a href=\"https:\/\/alj.com\/en\/news\/almar-water-solutions-invest-us-600m-supply-1-8m-people-saudi-arabia-desalinated-water\/?id=media_center\">Shuqaiq<\/a> on the Red Sea coast of Saudi Arabia, and Kenya\u2019s first large-scale desalination plant in the county of <a href=\"https:\/\/alj.com\/en\/news\/solving-water-crisis-1m-people-almar-water-solutions-build-kenyas-first-large-scale-desalination-plant\/?id=media_center\">Mombasa<\/a>, which together will supply
