Water usage has been increasing worldwide by about 1% per year since the 1980s as demand rises due to population growth, socio-economic development and changing consumption patterns. The rate of global water demand is expected to continue increasing at a similar rate until 2050 – and yet, already, over 2 billion people live in countries experiencing high water stress, and a further 4 billion people experience severe water scarcity during at least one month of the year.<\/p>\n

According to the United Nations<\/span>\u00a0World Water Development Report 2019:<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThree out of ten people do not have access to safe drinking water. Almost half of the people drinking water from unprotected sources live in Sub-Saharan Africa. Six out of ten people do not have access to safely managed sanitation services.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n
