{"id":52976,"date":"2019-10-15T05:56:37","date_gmt":"2019-10-15T05:56:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.alj.com\/?post_type=news&#038;p=52976"},"modified":"2019-11-27T10:46:32","modified_gmt":"2019-11-27T10:46:32","slug":"congratulations-to-leading-economists-at-mit-for-nobel-prize","status":"publish","type":"news","link":"https:\/\/alj.com\/en\/news\/congratulations-to-leading-economists-at-mit-for-nobel-prize\/","title":{"rendered":"Congratulations to leading economists at MIT for Nobel Prize!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On behalf of all at Abdul Latif Jameel, we extend our congratulations to <a href=\"http:\/\/economics.mit.edu\/faculty\/banerjee\">Abhijit Banerjee<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/economics.mit.edu\/faculty\/eduflo\">Esther Duflo<\/a>, leading economists at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (<a href=\"https:\/\/mit.edu\/\">MIT<\/a>), for receiving the 2019 Nobel Prize for Economics for their work in <em>\u201ctheir experimental approach to alleviating global poverty.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Abhijit and Esther are co-founders of the Abdul Latif Jameel Poverty Action Lab (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.povertyactionlab.org\/\">J-PAL<\/a>) at MIT, which has partnered with and been supported by <a href=\"https:\/\/communityjameel.org\/\">Community Jameel<\/a> since 2005, to tackle the root causes of poverty through evidence-based assessment, including issues related to health, education, youth employment, and financial inclusion.<\/p>\n<p>Their work has &#8220;dramatically improved our ability to fight poverty in practice&#8221;, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nobelprize.org\/prizes\/uncategorized\/the-royal-swedish-academy-of-sciences\">Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences<\/a>, which awards the prize, said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Prof. Duflo is only the second woman to win the prize since it began in 1969 and the youngest recipient of the prize at 46 years old.<\/p>\n<p>Congratulations on this inspirational accomplishment!<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"http:\/\/news.mit.edu\/2019\/esther-duflo-abhijit-banerjee-win-2019-nobel-prize-economics-1014\">here.<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"featured_media":52977,"template":"","tags":[],"newscategory":[150],"acf":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v21.5 - https:\/\/yoast.com\/wordpress\/plugins\/seo\/ -->\n<title>Leading Economists at MIT Win Nobel Prize!
