{"id":97317,"date":"2022-04-07T05:38:57","date_gmt":"2022-04-07T05:38:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/alj.com\/?post_type=news&#038;p=97317"},"modified":"2022-07-04T10:50:46","modified_gmt":"2022-07-04T10:50:46","slug":"protecting-our-planet-and-our-health-on-world-health-day-2022","status":"publish","type":"news","link":"https:\/\/alj.com\/en\/news\/protecting-our-planet-and-our-health-on-world-health-day-2022\/","title":{"rendered":"Protecting our planet and our health on World Health Day 2022"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Today on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.who.int\/campaigns\/world-health-day\/2022\">World Health Day 2022<\/a>, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.who.int\/campaigns\/world-health-day\/2022\">World Health Organization<\/a> asks:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cAre we able to reimagine a world where clean air, water, and food are available to all?<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhere economies are focused on health and well-being?<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhere cities are livable and people have control over their health and the health of the planet?\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>It is a startling fact that the answers should be obvious, but these are complex and pressing questions which have no straightforward or clear pathway to prosperity.\u00a0 And so too is it a fact that today, the global scale of healthcare inequalities and the challenges we currently face are unprecedented.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/vOvAIZXtNAM\" width=\"560\" height=\"314\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>The ambition of ensuring healthy lives and promoting wellbeing for all at all ages \u2013 the premise of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.un.org\/sustainabledevelopment\/health\/\">United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 3<\/a> \u2013 has never looked more relevant than it has during the ongoing global COVID-19 pandemic, as the world comes to terms with the worst healthcare crisis for more than 100 years.\u00a0 Achieving the goals of SDG 3 requires a strategic and unified effort, but it is an effort that must be made to ensure a brighter future for every community in every corner of our planet.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter  wp-image-90578\" src=\"https:\/\/media.alj.com\/app\/uploads\/2021\/07\/SDG-3-Infographic.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"784\" height=\"1147\" srcset=\"https:\/\/media.alj.com\/app\/uploads\/2021\/07\/SDG-3-Infographic.jpg 522w, https:\/\/media.alj.com\/app\/uploads\/2021\/07\/SDG-3-Infographic-205x300.jpg 205w, https:\/\/media.alj.com\/app\/uploads\/2021\/07\/SDG-3-Infographic-102x150.jpg 102w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 784px) 100vw, 784px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.who.int\/\">WHO<\/a> estimates that more than 13 million deaths around the world each year are due to avoidable environmental causes, including the climate crisis which is the single biggest health threat facing humanity.<\/p>\n<p>In 2020, the Jameel Family increased its commitment to improving global access to healthcare with the establishment of Abdul Latif Jameel Health, reflecting their long-standing commitment to innovating for a better future.\u00a0 Working with the global investment arm of the Jameel Family, JIMCO (the Abdul Latif Jameel Investment Management Company) and its dedicated <a href=\"https:\/\/jimco.com\/en\/funds\/life-sciences\/\">JIMCO Life Sciences Fund<\/a>, Abdul Latif Jameel Health is accelerating access to modern medical care with a series of targeted investments and distribution agreements, with specific focus on the Global South.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter  wp-image-97318\" src=\"https:\/\/media.alj.com\/app\/uploads\/2022\/03\/ALJ-Health.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"821\" height=\"462\" srcset=\"https:\/\/media.alj.com\/app\/uploads\/2022\/03\/ALJ-Health.jpg 601w, https:\/\/media.alj.com\/app\/uploads\/2022\/03\/ALJ-Health-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/media.alj.com\/app\/uploads\/2022\/03\/ALJ-Health-150x84.jpg 150w, https:\/\/media.alj.com\/app\/uploads\/2022\/03\/ALJ-Health-226x126.jpg 226w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 821px) 100vw, 821px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>While our society has made significant advances against many causes of death and disease \u2013 life expectancy has increased;
