How the Jameel Family\u2019s collaborative approach aligns with the UN vision of partnership to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals<\/h4>\n

\"\"The United Nations\u2019 (UN) Sustainable Development Goals<\/a> (SDGs) are a blueprint to achieve a better and more sustainable future for all.\u00a0 They address the global challenges we face, including poverty, inequality, climate change, environmental degradation, and peace and justice – and they define the actions we need to take, as a society, to safeguard the future of our way of life, and of our planet.<\/p>\n

The 17 Goals were adopted by all UN Member States in 2015, as part of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development<\/a>[1]<\/a>, which set out a 15-year plan to achieve the Goals.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Today, progress is being made in many places, but, overall, action to meet the Goals is not yet advancing at the speed or scale required[2]<\/a>.\u00a0 At the UN SDG Summit, Antonio Guterres, UN Secretary-General, called on all sectors of society to mobilize for a decade of action to try and keep the Goals on track[3]<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cWe need all hands-on deck.\u00a0 We need to move together, in step with the world\u2019s young people, leaving no one behind.\u00a0 Let us harness the wind in the sails from this Summit to move faster and farther to reach our destination for people and planet,\u201d<\/em> said Guterres.<\/p>\n

Most of the Goals set out priority actions we need to take, which, if achieved, will help to resolve that issue and enable us to reach that destination, whether it be reducing poverty, improving access to food and water, or cutting CO2<\/sub> emissions.<\/p>\n

But SDG 17<\/a>: Partnerships for the goals, is different.\u00a0 Rather than setting out what<\/em> actions we need to take, it outlines how <\/em>we should take them in order to be successful in our aims. \u00a0It emphasizes that the SDGs can only be realized with strong global partnerships and cooperation.<\/p>\n

SDG 17 states: \u201cA successful development agenda requires inclusive partnerships \u2014 at the global, regional, national and local levels \u2014 built upon principles and values, and upon a shared vision and shared goals placing people and the planet at the centre\u2026Strong international cooperation is needed now more than ever to ensure that countries have the means to recover from the pandemic, build back better and achieve the Sustainable Development Goals<\/em>\u201d[4]<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The COVID-19 pandemic has focused attention even more on the crucial role of global partnerships. \u00a0The interconnected global economy requires a global response to ensure that all countries and territories, in particular developing countries, can address the parallel health, economic and environmental crises in order to recover better.<\/p>\n
