The Abdul Latif Jameel Institute for Disease and Emergency Analytics (J-IDEA) at Imperial College London has launched a new online course on COVID-19, the pandemic sweeping the globe.

Science Matters: Let’s Talk About COVID-19″ is an educational program which aims to explain the science behind some of the most pressing questions on the infection, using reliable sources of information to track trends and to impart current data and advice as the situation evolves.

Helen Ward, professor of public health at Imperial College and an instructor of the course, comments:

“Responding to an emerging infection such as this novel Coronavirus is a major challenge for health systems and the public, but also for scientists carrying out rapid research to provide evidence-based solutions.

Imperial’s ‘Science Matters’ is a new educational program providing opportunities for learning in real-time as the outbreak and the science develop. This will be valuable for people wanting topical updates, but then delving into the underpinning research in epidemic modelling, public health and clinical research.”

Katharina Hauck, deputy director of J-IDEA and reader in health economics in Imperial’s Department of Infectious Disease Epidemiology, is also a listed instructor of Science Matters. Take the free course here.

Co-founded by Imperial College London and Community Jameel, J-IDEA has a mission to combat threats from disease worldwide. Launched in 2019, the institute is now at the forefront of the global response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
