Almar Water Solutions recently hosted Fady Jameel, Vice Chairman, International, Abdul Latif Jameel during his first visit to one of their flagship projects, the Centinela Water System in Antofagasta in Chile.

Fady Jameel was welcomed by Mauricio Ortiz, Chief Financial Officer of Antofagasta Minerals, the project’s end client, and was accompanied during the site visit by senior representatives of the project, including Santiago Martínez, Chief Operating Officer, Asset Management at Almar Water Solutions; Arturo Errázuriz, Chairman of Almar Water Solutions Chile and Francisco Rodríguez, CEO of the SPV Aguas Esperanza.

The visit focused primarily on the ongoing construction of the project’s expansion, also known as “Sistema de Impulsión de Agua de Mar II” (SIAM II).

Developed to serve Antofagasta Minerals, one of the world’s leading copper producers, the Centinela Water System is a key industrial infrastructure project that ensures a reliable and sustainable water supply for mining operations in the heart of Chile’s Atacama Desert.

The dual pipeline system will ultimately transport 167,011 m³/day of seawater (110,678 m³/day from SIAM I and 56,333 m³/day from SIAM II) from Michilla Port to the Centinela Mining District, located 144 kilometers inland at an altitude of 2,220 meters above sea level, without drawing from scarce freshwater resources.

“It is a tremendous honour for our team to welcome Fady Jameel to this milestone project for the first time,” said Santiago Martínez. “The Centinela Water System is not only a demonstration of our technical and operational capabilities, but also a testament to our close collaboration with Antofagasta Minerals. We deeply appreciate their continued trust and partnership.”

Fady Jameel expressed his appreciation for the progress achieved and the scale of the infrastructure:

“This project represents Almar Water Solutions’ full commitment to enabling sustainable, reliable water solutions for the mining sector.  By contributing to the Centinela Water System, Almar Water Solutions is playing a key role in the supply of copper, one of the most critical and fundamental elements to a sustainable society.  They are contributing to a system that sets a benchmark in environmental responsibility and executional safety, while continuing to demonstrate the impact of long-term vision in industrial water management.”

Almar Water Solutions remains firmly committed to delivering tailor-made, high-performance water infrastructure for some of the world’s most demanding sectors. The Centinela project is an example of the company’s capacity to develop and manage complex, long-distance water transport systems in extreme environments, always prioritising operational excellence, stakeholder collaboration, and environmental stewardship.  It is a clear example of Almar Water Solutions’ intention and strategy to focus on serving industrial clients.
