FRV announces submission of 1.8 GW of BESS & solar projects to UK’s Gate 2 Window of NESO’s Connection Reform Process
- FRV, through its majority owned development platform, FRV Powertek Limited, has submitted a portfolio of BESS and Solar assets, with a combined capacity of 1.8GW, to the UK’s Gate 2 Window of the NESO’s Connection Reform Process.
- All the projects are fully permitted and are seeking advanced connection dates pre-2030.
- FRV strengthens its commitment to the UK market, which hosts FRV’s first-ever BESS project and a 140MW / 280MWh operational BESS portfolio.
Fotowatio Renewable Ventures (FRV), a leading developer of sustainable energy solutions, and part of Jameel Energy, has, through its majority owned joint venture platform, FRV Powertek, submitted a portfolio of 1.8GW of fully permitted renewable and battery energy storage projects to the UK’s Gate 2 window of the NESO’s Connection Reform process. These projects are seeking advanced connection dates pre-2030, with proposed connection dates through 2026 to 2029.
The portfolio includes both solar plants and battery energy storage systems (BESS), consolidating FRV’s role as one of the key players in the UK energy sector. Amongst the most prominent projects are the Bicker Fen (400 MW), Stocking Pelham (400 MW), Stow Manor (400 MW), Ansty (200 MW) and Maes Melin (200 MW) BESS projects. In addition, the Malice Farm project will combine 50 MW solar generation with storage, representing a further step in the integration of hybrid and flexible solutions. The portfolio also includes the 50MW / 200MWh Hollybush and 50MW / 200MWh Dunbar projects, each with protected connection dates in 2026 and 2027 respectively.
This pipeline reinforces FRV’s strategic position in the United Kingdom, where it inaugurated its first global storage plant, Holes Bay, in 2020. Since then, FRV has brought into operation three facilities: Holes Bay, Contego and Clay Tye, reaching a total of 140 MW / 280 MWh in operation.
Tom Guilfoyle, Managing Director of FRV UK, stated:
“The UK was where we began our energy storage journey. The submission of our pipeline marks a significant milestone for us and is a vital step forward for the growth of our portfolio in the country. The Connection Reform presents an unprecedent opportunity to bring fully permitted, low carbon infrastructure online faster – vital to our continuing commitment to support a more resilient, decarbonized and efficient electricity grid energy mix, to accelerate a path to a secure, net-zero future”.
Ravinder Shan, Managing Director of FRV Powertek Limited, said:
“The 1.8GW portfolio of projects that have been submitted into the Gate 2 Grid reform process are protected, significantly advanced, and will be ready to build once we receive firm connection dates from NESO”.
Preeti Yardi, Managing Director of FRV Powertek said:
“The level of maturity of the projects, is the result of the work and the commitment of all the team involved over the last couple of years. Together with the strong commitment of local communities, we recognize these projects as vital investment opportunities, that will boost local economies”.
With this announcement, FRV reaffirms its commitment to the United Kingdom’s energy transition and its role as a strategic partner in the deployment of clean and next-generation infrastructure.
