Art Jameel has announced that Jameel Arts Centre in Dubai has been awarded a prestigious medal at the inaugural Art Basel Awards for visionaries shaping the future of art, one of three institutions globally to be recognized.

A distinguished jury of museum directors awarded the “gold standard for excellence” to those who “defy categorization and challenge conventions”.

Jameel Arts Centre was honored in the Museums and Institutions category, alongside ART + PRACTICE (Los Angeles, California), and Raw Material Company (Dakar, Senegal).  The medal will be presented to Fady Jameel, Art Jameel Chair and Co-Founder, and Vice Chairman – International, Abdul Latif Jameel, on at the Art Basel Awards Ceremony on June 19, during the historic flagship fair in Basel.  Antonia Carver, Director, Art Jameel will present the work of Jameel Arts Centre at the Art Basel Awards Summit on June 20.

Jameel Arts Centre, renowned as Dubai’s hub for contemporary art and ideas, and the city’s leading public institution for exhibitions, collections, learning and more, is recognized in the category of Museums and Institutions for “consistently curating groundbreaking exhibitions and fostering innovative contemporary works”.

Art Jameel also founded and runs Hayy Jameel, Jeddah’s home for the arts, in Saudi Arabia; both centres are independent with a civic purpose focused on supporting artists, providing learning opportunities and experiences, and nurturing creative communities across West Asia and beyond.
