Water, water, everywhere…

Water is one of our most precious resources, and yet, statistics around humanity’s stewardship of water are startling…

  • 2 billion people lack access to safely managed drinking water services
  • 2 billion people lack safely managed sanitation services

It covers 70% of our planet and is our life source, sustaining not only our existence, but also that of every other organism on Earth.

Which is why, today, on World Oceans Day, we join the United Nations’ call for action to build a connection to the ocean that is inclusive… innovative… and informed by lessons from the past.

This year, the theme for World Oceans Day is ‘The Ocean: Life and Livelihoods’.

“It is ironic that in our world of vast water resources, only a tiny fraction is available to support life, while huge numbers of inhabitants lack enough water to live on, often due to our own mismanagement of resources.” – Fady Jameel, Deputy President and Vice Chairman, Abdul Latif Jameel

The impact of water availability extends far into other issues central to the wellbeing, success, and sustainability of civilization itself.

Hygiene…  agriculture…  industry . . .  risks of migration, and even conflict….  and yet it is also able to create more equal societies.

Almar Water Solutions, the dedicated water solutions unit of Abdul Latif Jameel Energy, is enabling us to play a significant role in addressing water scarcity challenges.  Their rapid expansion of water infrastructure assets around the world is a sign of our commitment to tackling this most pressing of challenges, and to improving access to sustainable water supplies for communities across the globe.

Fady Jameel adds:

“Infrastructure alone cannot solve or eradicate mankind’s water security challenges.  New ways of thinking, scientific discoveries, and new blueprints to protect the planet’s vital resources are needed to power a truly holistic and transformative approach.”

Join us in raising awareness and taking action.  Our oceans are too important and need our help, today and every day.
